The Glimmer-Grape Discovery
My name is Flora, and I live in a sparkling coral city where the water is always warm and clear. I am ten years old, and my favorite thing is swimming through the kelp forests with my best friend, Maya. Today, Maya swam over with a huge, excited grin on her face and her fins fluttering faster than a hummingbird's wings.
Maya held out a bundle of seaweed containing strange, glowing purple fruits that looked like tiny, wiggling lanterns. She told me she found these 'Glimmer-Grapes' near the deep trenches and was dying to know how they tasted. I looked at the neon-colored skin and the way they pulsed with light, feeling a little knot of worry in my stomach.
The fruit didn't look like any of the sweet sea-apples or crunchy kelp-chips I usually eat. I hesitated, wondering if something that looked so alien could actually be good to eat. Maya, being the most curious girl I know, took a big bite and her eyes immediately widened into giant circles of joy.
Seeing her face, I decided to be brave and took a small nibble of the shimmering purple orb. As soon as it touched my tongue, a burst of sweet honey and cool mint exploded in my mouth, making me giggle with delight. It was the most delicious thing I had ever tasted in the entire ocean!
I realized then that just because something looks different doesn't mean it isn't wonderful. Maya and I spent the rest of the afternoon sharing the Glimmer-Grapes and planning our next adventure to find more. I learned that being open to new things can lead to the sweetest surprises of all.
