Neo loved his mom’s science lab more than any playground. It wasn't a place with scary chemicals, but a room full of wonders! Beakers bubbled with fizzy raspberry juice, and tubes glowed with lemon-lime light. The air smelled sweet, like strawberries and magic. Neo’s favorite thing to do was to mix and watch. *Glug-glug-fizz!* He would pour a little of this and a drop of that, always asking, “What if…?”

Today, Neo had a big idea. “What if,” he whispered to himself, “I could make a rainbow in a jar?” He grabbed a tall, clear beaker and poured in some red cherry liquid. Perfect! Next, he carefully added the yellow lemon liquid. But instead of sitting on top, it mixed right in, turning the whole thing orange. “Hmm,” he mumbled. He then added the blue blueberry liquid, but it just made a murky, brownish purple. *Plop-fizz-mush*.

Neo frowned. “Maybe I need to be more careful,” he thought. He started over. This time, he tipped the beaker and let the yellow liquid slide down the side, ever so slowly. *Drip… drop… drip…* But it happened again! The red and yellow swirled into orange. He sighed a big, puffy sigh. His shoulders slumped. No matter what he tried, all his beautiful colors turned into the same yucky, brown goo. *Plop-fizz-mush*.

Just as he was about to give up, Neo looked at his snack: a bowl of apple slices with a swirl of thick, golden honey. He noticed how the honey sat right on top of the apple and didn't run everywhere. A new question popped into his head. “What if the liquids need to be… different?” His eyes lit up! He found some thick, purple grape syrup, some plain blue water, and some light, yellow cooking oil. He poured the thick syrup in first. Then, very gently, he added the water, and finally, the oil. It worked! The colors stacked on top of each other—purple, blue, and yellow. A perfect, wobbly rainbow!

Neo danced around the lab, pointing at his amazing creation. He didn't just pour more carefully; he had found a whole new way to think about his problem! When his mom came in, she gasped. “Neo, it’s beautiful! How did you do it?” Neo puffed out his chest proudly. He learned that the best solutions sometimes come not from trying harder, but from a little curiosity and a brand-new idea.
