Lily and the Lost Light
In the heart of the Whispering Woods, where the path wiggled like a giggle, lived a girl named Lily. Lily was very brave and loved exploring more than anything. Every morning, she'd skip past bouncy mushrooms that smelled like cinnamon and listen to the giggling stream. Her favorite game was finding the shiniest, smoothest stones to add to her pocket collection.
One afternoon, a new sound tickled Lily’s ears. It wasn't the giggle of the stream or the bounce of the mushrooms. It was a soft, sad sound coming from a grumpy-looking cave: pitter-patter-plink. It sounded lonely, and Lily knew that even brave explorers must also be kind. She had to find out what was making that pitter-patter-plink.
Lily took a deep breath and stepped into the cool, dark cave. "Hello?" she called, but only her own voice echoed back. The pitter-patter-plink was softer now, almost a whisper. For a moment, her bravery felt wobbly, and the darkness felt very big. She thought about her sunny path and the bouncy mushrooms, and wondered if she should turn back.
Just then, she remembered the shiny stones in her pocket. Taking out the smoothest one, she held it tight and whispered, "Even a small light is better than none." To her surprise, the little stone began to glow! The tiny light danced on the cave walls and landed on a tiny Glow-Worm, whose own light was flickering sadly. The Glow-Worm was crying sparkly tears, making the pitter-patter-plink. Lily smiled gently and sat with the little creature, telling it a happy story until its light grew brighter and brighter, filling the whole cave with a warm, happy glow.
The little Glow-Worm wiggled with joy and led Lily out of the cave, its bright light showing her the way. Lily learned that being brave doesn’t mean you're never scared; it means you help others even when you feel a little wobbly. And best of all, she had a new, glowing friend to share adventures with in the Whispering Woods.
