Josie's Colourful Discovery
Josie adored Tuesdays! That was art day at the community centre. The big room always smelled of paint and paper, and bright colours were splattered everywhere. Josie would skip to her spot, ready to make something wonderful.
Today, Josie was drawing a big, fluffy cloud. She loved to use soft, swirly lines and gentle pastel colours, making her clouds look like happy, dreamy puffs. She concentrated, humming a little tune as her crayon danced across the paper.
Suddenly, Josie peeked at the table next to her. A new girl, Lily, had drawn a cloud too, but it was very different! Lily's cloud had sharp, bold lines and super bright, almost glowing blue and purple colours. It looked very grand and powerful.
Josie looked from Lily's bold cloud to her own soft, swirly one. Her happy hum stopped. 'My cloud isn't as good,' she thought, a little frown crinkling her forehead. 'Lily's looks so strong and bright. Mine just looks... fuzzy.'
Josie’s curious nature bubbled up. She couldn't help but ask her teacher, Miss Alice. 'Miss Alice,' Josie whispered, pointing, 'Lily’s cloud is super bright and strong! My cloud is just soft and swirly. Is hers better?'
Miss Alice smiled warmly. 'Oh, Josie, look closely!' she said. 'Lily's cloud is strong and bold, isn't it? But your cloud, Josie, is so wonderfully soft and dreamy! It looks like a cloud you could snuggle right into. Both are beautiful, but in different ways, just like two different songs can both be lovely to hear.'
Josie looked at her cloud again, then at Lily’s. Miss Alice was right! Lily’s cloud was amazing with its strong colours, but Josie’s own cloud had a gentle beauty all its own. She could almost feel how soft it would be!
Her frown disappeared. Josie started to see the swirls and pastels in her drawing as special, not 'fuzzy.' She saw the beauty in Lily's artwork too, but now she also saw the beauty in her own unique style. She didn't have to be the same to be special.
Josie added one more tiny, sparkly swirl to her cloud, a happy smile returning to her face. She realised that art wasn't about being 'better' than someone else; it was about expressing her own wonderful ideas.
From that day on, Josie loved art day even more. She knew her drawings were special just the way they were, and she always looked for the unique beauty in everyone else's creations too. All art was wonderful!
