Hannah's Super Helper Star
Hannah loved Christmas more than anything! Her whole house in sunny Australia smelled like pine needles and sweet gingerbread. "Time to decorate!" Mum called out. Hannah wiggled with excitement. Helping was her favourite thing to do, especially at Christmas. She carefully hung shiny red baubles and draped sparkly tinsel on the lower branches of the big, green tree. "Up, up, up it goes!" she sang with each decoration.
Soon, the tree was glittering from top to bottom... almost. One box was left. Inside, nestled on soft cotton wool, was the most important decoration of all: a giant, sparkly, golden star. "This goes right on the very top!" said Dad, holding it up. But the top of the tree was very, very high. It tickled the ceiling! Mum and Dad looked up, wondering how to get it all the way up there without wobbling.
"I can help!" said Hannah. She was a super helper, after all. She dragged her little blue step-stool over to the tree. She stood on her tippy-toes and stretched her arm up, up, up as high as it could go. But the top branch was still too far away. The star felt heavy in her little hand, and she felt a little bit sad. She really wanted to be the one to put the star on top.
Hannah looked at the big star, then at her dad. Suddenly, a brilliant idea popped into her head, shining as brightly as the star itself! Helping didn't always mean doing it all by yourself. "I know!" she chirped. "I'll help you, Dad!" She ran to the laundry and pointed to the big, safe ladder. Together, they carried it to the tree. Hannah held the star carefully while Dad climbed up. Then, she passed it to him, and he placed it perfectly on the highest branch.
The star shone down on the whole room, twinkling like a real star from the night sky. "Hooray!" cheered Mum. Dad climbed down and gave Hannah a huge hug. "You are the best helper, Hannah," he said. "You helped us solve the problem!" Hannah beamed with pride. The tree was perfect, their home was full of Christmas sparkle, and she knew that the best kind of helping was working together. She couldn't wait for Christmas Day.
