Hannah's Big Brave Song
Hannah bounced out of bed each morning, her heart buzzing with excitement. It was her very first week at Broadbeach State School, and everything felt shiny and new. The big, sunny classrooms, the colourful paintings on the walls, and the happy chatter of children filling the air made her smile wide.
She'd already made two wonderful new friends, Lily and Tom, who loved playing tag at lunchtime. Her teacher, Miss Lily, had a warm smile and always told the best stories. Hannah loved learning new songs and drawing bright pictures of kangaroos and koalas.
One sunny Tuesday, Miss Lily announced something exciting: 'Next week, we're having a special 'Broadbeach Bright Sparks' assembly!' she beamed. 'It's a chance for everyone to share something they love – a song, a poem, or even a clever trick!'
Hannah's eyes lit up. She loved to sing her favourite nursery rhymes, but her tummy did a little flip-flop when she imagined singing in front of the WHOLE school. That seemed like a very big crowd indeed, much bigger than just her family.
The day of the assembly arrived. Hannah watched her friends bravely showing their talents. Lily recited a funny poem, and Tom showed off his amazing ability to balance a book on his head. Hannah squeezed her hands together, her heart thumping like a drum.
Then, it was her turn. Miss Lily called, 'Next up, we have Hannah!' Hannah took a deep, brave breath. Her legs felt a bit wobbly, but she remembered Miss Lily saying, 'Being brave means trying, even if you feel a little bit scared.' She walked to the microphone, closed her eyes for a second, and began to sing her favourite song, 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star'.
Her clear, sweet voice filled the hall. When she finished, the whole school erupted in cheers and claps! Hannah opened her eyes to see everyone smiling, and her friends jumping up and down. A warm, fizzy feeling bubbled up inside her.
Lily and Tom rushed over, 'That was SO brave, Hannah!' Lily exclaimed. 'Your singing was beautiful!' added Tom. Miss Lily gave her a thumbs-up and a wink. Hannah's smile was so big, it felt like it could light up the whole school.
Hannah realised that day that being brave wasn't about not being scared at all; it was about doing it anyway. She had faced her wobbly tummy and sung her song, and it had felt wonderful! Her first week at Broadbeach State School had taught her a big lesson.
Now, Hannah knew that Broadbeach State School was full of exciting new things to learn and explore, and she, with her brave little heart, was ready for every single one. She couldn't wait for all the new adventures that awaited her, feeling proud and courageous.
