Elena and the Precious Bird
Elena loved visiting her grandparents' house. It smelled like warm cookies and old books, and the sunlight always streamed through the big window. Her Grandma Lily had the prettiest little ceramic bird collection, shiny and colorful, perched on a shelf in the living room. Elena knew they were very special.
One sunny afternoon, Elena was playing with her soft, bouncy ball, pretending it was a cloud floating through the air. 'Boing! Boing!' went the ball as she bounced it lightly. She was having so much fun, giggling as it danced around the room.
Suddenly, with an unexpected 'WHOOSH!' the ball bounced a little too high, a little too fast. It sailed right towards Grandma Lily's precious shelf. 'Oh no!' Elena whispered, her eyes wide.
CRASH! A beautiful blue ceramic bird tumbled down and broke into a few pieces on the soft rug. Elena's heart pounded like a drum. Bang-bang-bang! A tiny, brave whisper in her head said, 'Oh dear, oh dear!'
Big tears welled up in Elena's eyes. She knew she had made a mistake. Her tummy felt wobbly, and her hands began to shake. What would Grandma Lily say? Would she be angry? Elena wanted to hide, to pretend it never happened. But her brave heart reminded her, 'Tell the truth, Elena!'
Taking a very deep breath, Elena walked slowly towards the kitchen where Grandma Lily was humming a tune. Every step felt heavy. 'Grandma?' she asked, her voice just a tiny squeak. 'I⦠I broke something. The little blue bird.'
Grandma Lily turned around, and her eyes were kind, not angry. She knelt down and gave Elena a big, warm hug. 'Oh, my sweet girl,' she said gently. 'Accidents happen. Thank you for being brave enough to tell me the truth.'
Together, they carefully picked up the pieces of the blue bird. Grandma Lily explained that the truth was much more precious than any ceramic bird. Elena felt a big wave of relief wash over her. Her pounding heart began to slow down.
That evening, snuggled on the couch with her grandparents, Elena felt warm and happy. Being brave wasn't always easy, but it always felt good to do the right thing. She learned that even when mistakes happen, being honest and brave makes everything better.
