Baggy's Garden Lesson
Baggy was a kind and curious child who loved spending sunny mornings in their grandparent's beautiful garden. The air was always sweet with the smell of roses, and colorful butterflies danced above the tall sunflowers. Today, Baggy had an important job: to carefully weed the big, round flowerbed near the stone path, ready for tomorrow's garden party.
Baggy knelt down, feeling the soft, cool earth between their fingers. "Weeds, weeds, go away!" Baggy sang softly, pulling out a few small ones. But then, a flash of bright orange caught Baggy's eye! A tiny ladybug with shiny black spots was slowly crawling up a green leaf.
"Wow!" whispered Baggy, forgetting all about the weeds. Baggy carefully watched the ladybug climb higher and higher. Then, a busy bumblebee buzzed by, heading straight for a big purple flower. Baggy giggled, deciding it would be much more fun to follow the bee and see all the different flowers. "Just a little playtime," Baggy promised, "I'll finish the weeding later!"
The next morning, the sun streamed through Baggy's window, bright and early. "Garden party today!" Baggy remembered with a sleepy smile. Then, suddenly, Baggy sat straight up in bed! "Oh no! The weeding!" Baggy exclaimed, a worried frown replacing the smile. The big, round flowerbed near the stone path was still full of pesky weeds!
Baggy quickly put on clothes and raced out to the garden. The flowerbed looked even messier now. Baggy started pulling weeds as fast as possible, but it felt like there were a million of them! Soon, cars started to arrive, and happy voices drifted over the garden fence. The first guests were here, and the flowerbed was still half-weedy. Baggy's shoulders drooped.
Baggy’s grandparent walked over, a gentle smile on their face. "What's wrong, my little gardener?" they asked kindly, seeing Baggy's sad face and the half-weeded patch. Baggy explained about the ladybug, the bee, and forgetting the work. "Ah, Baggy," grandparent said softly, "playtime is wonderful, but some jobs need to be done first. Our choices today often decide what happens tomorrow."
Baggy thought about grandparent's words. The party was still lots of fun, with laughter and delicious treats. But every time Baggy looked at the flowerbed, a little reminder popped into their mind. Baggy still felt curious, but now knew that sometimes, important tasks needed to come first, even before following a fascinating ladybug or a busy bee.
The next sunny morning, Baggy went straight to the flowerbed, a small gardening fork in hand. No ladybugs, no bees, just focus. With a kind heart and a curious mind, Baggy smiled, knowing that finishing a job made playtime even sweeter. The garden always had more adventures, but now, Baggy would make sure the weeds were gone first!
