Maria and Thumper's Daily Promise
In a cozy little house, lived a kind-hearted girl named Maria. Her room was a cheerful place, filled with sunshine and soft, fluffy things. But Maria's favorite fluffy thing was her pet bunny, Thumper, who had ears like velvet and a tail like a cotton ball.
Every morning, Thumper would wiggle his nose, waiting for Maria to wake up. Maria loved her bunny dearly, and her most important job was to take care of him. She had to feed him fresh hay, give him clean water, and offer him crunchy carrots. It was a promise she made to Thumper every single day.
Most days, Maria remembered her promise right away. She'd scoop out the hay, fill the water bottle, and watch Thumper munch happily. The sound of his tiny teeth crunching on a carrot always made her smile, and she'd gently stroke his incredibly soft fur.
But sometimes, Maria's mind would wander. Maybe she was excited about a new book, or planning a game with her friends. On those days, Thumper would sit patiently in his hutch, perhaps a little quieter than usual, waiting for his morning meal.
One sunny Tuesday, Maria woke up buzzing with excitement. Her best friend, Leo, had invited her to build a magnificent fort in the park! She quickly ate her breakfast, already imagining the towering walls and secret passages.
She grabbed her hat and was about to dash out the door when her mom called gently, "Maria, did you remember to give Thumper his breakfast this morning?" Maria paused, her cheeks feeling a little warm. Oh! She had completely forgotten! Thumper!
Maria rushed back to Thumper's hutch. There he was, looking at her with his big, brown eyes. She felt a pang of guilt. "Oh, Thumper, I'm so sorry!" she whispered, quickly getting his hay and water. As he ate, she made another promise to herself: she would try her very best to remember on her own.
The next day, Maria had a special art project planned. She wanted to draw a rainbow unicorn with glitter and bright colors! She woke up, her head already swirling with shades of pink and purple. She ate her toast, humming a little tune.
As she reached for her art supplies, a tiny thought popped into her head, like a little bell ringing. Thumper! She looked towards his hutch. He was still and quiet, perhaps hoping she'd remember. Maria's heart felt a little squeeze.
She imagined how hungry Thumper must be. He couldn't get his own food or water. He depended on her. Maria's caring heart knew what she had to do. Even though her glitter pens were calling, Thumper needed her first.
Maria put down her pens. She walked over to Thumper's hutch, scooped out the freshest hay, filled his water bottle, and selected the juiciest carrot from the fridge. Thumper immediately twitched his nose, then happily began to munch, his little body wiggling with delight.
A huge smile spread across Maria's face. She hadn't been reminded! She had remembered all by herself! The crunching sound of Thumper's breakfast was the sweetest music. She stroked his soft fur, feeling a warm glow spread through her chest.
"Good morning, Thumper!" her mom said, walking into the room. She noticed Thumper busily eating. "Oh, Maria, you already took care of him! That's wonderful!" Her mom gave her a proud hug. Maria beamed.
From that day on, Maria found a clever way to remember. Every morning, after she brushed her teeth, she would give Thumper his breakfast. It became her special Thumper-time routine, a quiet promise she kept all on her own.
Maria knew that caring for Thumper was a big responsibility, but it also filled her heart with so much joy. Thumper was always healthy and happy, and Maria was proud to be the best, most remembering pet owner a bunny could ever wish for. Their daily promise was a happy one, indeed!
