John's Brekkie Surprise
John, an eight-year-old with a chuckle always ready to bubble up, lived in a cozy house where the mornings usually started with the smell of toast and his mum’s gentle singing. John loved making people laugh, whether it was telling a silly joke or pulling a funny face when no one was looking. He especially loved making his parents smile, though his usual morning contribution was just asking for extra Vegemite on his toast.
One sunny Saturday, John woke up before anyone else. The house was quiet, except for the kookaburras laughing outside. He had a brilliant idea, a 'ripper of a plan' as his dad would say, to surprise his parents with breakfast in bed! It would be the funniest, most loving surprise ever. John tiptoed out of his room, feeling like a secret chef on a top-secret mission.
In the kitchen, John carefully pulled out a chair to reach the bread. He decided on toast, of course, but what else? He found some colourful sprinkles – perfect for 'fancy toast'! Then he spotted a banana, which he sliced into funny shapes, and a few bright red strawberries. He even poured two glasses of milk, trying very hard not to spill a single drop.
Finally, with a wobbly tray holding two pieces of sprinkled toast, funny-shaped banana slices, strawberries, and two full glasses of milk, John marched towards his parents' bedroom. He pushed the door open with his foot and, with a big, goofy grin, announced, 'Rise and shine, sleepyheads! Your five-star chef has prepared a masterpiece!'
His parents blinked their eyes open, saw John’s proud, funny face and the colourful, wobbly breakfast. They burst out laughing, a warm, joyful sound that filled the room. 'Oh, John, you're amazing!' Mum said, giving him a big hug. Dad chuckled, 'This is the best breakfast ever, mate!' John beamed. It might have been a bit messy, but it was made with so much love, and it certainly made everyone laugh.
