Benjamin, a clever little boy of six, loved his cosy bedroom. His walls were painted sky blue, and a friendly koala mobile hung above his bed. Every night, his mum or dad would tuck him in, read a story, and give him a big kiss goodnight. But lately, Benjamin felt a new, brave feeling bubbling inside him. He knew he was becoming a big boy, ready for a special challenge.

Tonight was the night! Benjamin decided he would try to sleep all by himself, from bedtime right through to the morning sun. He carefully arranged his favourite soft toy, Didi the fluffy kangaroo, right next to his pillow. Didi always made him feel safe and sound. Benjamin tucked himself under his doona, feeling a flutter of excitement and just a tiny bit of nerves.

After goodnight hugs and whispers, his mum quietly closed the door. The room became very dark and quiet. Benjamin snuggled Didi close, listening to the soft tick-tock of his clock. 'You're a brave big boy, Benjamin,' he whispered to himself, trying to feel every bit of his bravery. He closed his eyes, thinking about all the fun things he’d do tomorrow.

Later, in the deepest part of the night, Benjamin suddenly woke up. It was super dark, and the house was absolutely silent. He felt a little shiver and a tiny worry creep in. 'Dad?' he called out, but only silence answered. His heart thumped a little faster. Then, Benjamin remembered! He was a brave big boy, sleeping all by himself!

He took a deep breath, just like his dad taught him. He hugged Didi extra tight, feeling the soft fur. He closed his eyes again and thought of his brave big boy self. Soon, the quiet darkness didn't feel so scary anymore. Benjamin drifted back to sleep, Didi snuggled safe in his arms, feeling very proud of his bravery.

When the sun peeked through his window, painting his room with golden light, Benjamin woke up feeling wonderful! He had done it! He jumped out of bed, Didi still by his side, and ran to tell his parents. 'I slept all by myself!' he announced proudly. His parents gave him the biggest hugs, telling him what a truly brave and big boy he was. Benjamin grinned, knowing he could do anything now!
